Kreplakistan

Students become constitution designers as they help made-up country Kreplakistan write its constitution.  During a unit on institutional design, students are given information about the political, economic and social background of Kreplakistan. Students are then asked to make recommendations for the country's constitution, including issues such as presidential democracy versus parliamentary democracy, federalism versus centralism and plurality voting systems versus proportional representation. The goal is to help students understand the pros and cons of various institutional arrangements and apply arguments from the readings to a concrete case.
