In OEB 191: Physiological and Biochemical Adaptation, students present one or two papers in primary literature to the class and lead the discussion. After retrieving the papers from online sources or the library and reading them, the presenters prepare a PowerPoint show to explain and summarize the findings. If they have a partner or partners (depending on the size of the class), the group must coordinate preparing the presentation.
In class, the student or group of students presents and leads the discussion for the entire class. The presentations are meant to include in-depth analysis of the paper(s), and engage the rest of the class in questions and discussion regarding the data and conclusions. Following class, students wrote answers to their key questions that arose from their readings, and turned them in. Historically, students have found this a most rewarding activity.
