College Tuition Costs

In this homework assignment, students take as a starting point President Obama's speech at the University of Michigan about the cost of tuition and student debt and, using concepts from the readings and data online, get into depth about the nature of college tuition and student debt.

In February, Obama gave a speech at the University of Michigan where he talked about the rising costs of tuition. Professor Goldin provided students with the speech and the evidence on increasing tuition costs.  Students were then asked to find information online at sites like the Department of Education website and show how the costs of what students actually pay have changed (as opposed to the sticker price that colleges list).  Students find that there has been a huge increase in the public sector.
